Born and raised in Sacramento, California, John grew up playing multiple sports at a young age. He ultimately fell in love with the game of golf and found some success during his amateur career, winning consecutive NCGA State Match Play Championships (‘10, ‘11) and Memorial Amateur Championships (‘11, ‘12). He went on to play for the University of New Mexico where he was an Academic All-American (‘11, ‘12, ‘13) and an honorable mention NCAA All-American in 2012. That same year he also won the Arizona Intercollegiate and was named UNM Student-Athlete of the year.

Turning professional in 2013, John began working with coach, Noah Montgomery, which would prove to be a significant turning point in John’s career. After spending his first few years of his career on the MacKenzie Tour, John flew across the Pacific Ocean and earned his Asian Tour card via Q-School in 2015. The following years proved difficult for John as he earned and lost his card multiple times and switched to the Asian Developmental Tour full time. He then re-earned full status on the Asian Tour via a third place finish on the 2017 ADT Order of Merit. Building off this momentum in 2018, John won 3 times on the Asian Tour—which earned him Asian Tour Player’s Player of Year honors. By finishing 6th on the AT Order of Merit, John secured status on the European Tour for the 2019 season. He finished 2019 with a win at the Thailand Open, his fourth victory on the Asian Tour. In 2020, John earned his maiden win on the European Tour at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters hosted at the Real Club Valderrama. He quickly followed it up with another win at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open just two weeks later. These two wins within the same month put John in the multiple winner’s category on the European Tour and earned him European Tour's Golfer of the Month for September 2020. Thus far in 2021, John earned his third win on the European Tour at the Austrian Golf Open in a grueling 5 hole playoff. John picked up his 5th Asian Tour win at the 2024 International Series Macau, in March, fending off David Puig in a 2 hole playoff.

To this day, John continues to work very closely with Noah and credits his success to the hard work they have both put into developing his game.
